PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Dr. Rhea .N. Mehra is a Board Certified psychiatrist who has completed her residency from University of Pittsburgh, Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic. She has experience in treating various psychiatric conditions in patients of all age groups, ranging from young children to the elderly. She has received extensive training in treating adults with a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses. While also pursuing fellowship training in Child & Adolescent and Geriatric psychiatry. Her training helped her gain experience in treatment of mood & anxiety disorders and co-occurring disorders like Substance dependence and a various kinds of eating disorders, management of various psychiatric emergencies... She is trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy with experience in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and interpersonal therapy (IPT). Additionally, she has provided psychiatric consultations to medically ill patients with co morbid psychiatric conditions. She has successfully treated patients with schizophrenia and various other psychotic disorders with both medications and ECT. As part of her training, Dr. Mehra joined the fellowship in Child and Adolescent psychiatry gaining experience in treating children and adolescents with ADHD, autism and other psychiatric condition specific to children of all ages. She further completed a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry where she treated patients with various cognitive problems, Dementia and other co morbid neurological complications. She also completed a Fellowship training program in ECT (Electro Convulsive Therapy) at Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic and at Duke Medical Center. She is Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology in Adult & Geriatric Psychiatry. Special interests In addition, she has experience treating patients with psychiatric issues related to head injuries, and she is proficient in reviewing SPECT brain imaging, an experience she gained while working at the AMEN Clinic in Reston, Virginia.She has a strong interest in the pursuing her interest in complimentary and alternative medicine in combination with traditional treatments where appropriate. Psychopharmacological & ECT treatment are the primary focus of the practice Work Experience Dr.Mehra has worked in a variety of settings including inpatient and outpatient centers, community mental health centers as well as in Nursing Home settings. She has been a consulting child psychiatrist for various CMHC and health organizations. She has experience with patients on Clozaril with suffering from severe psychotic conditions. She spends time in her private practice and is a staff psychiatrist at the INOVA health system in Northern Virginia. She also provides inpatient and outpatient ECT treatments for patients who are interested in considering ECT as a treatment for Psychiatric problems.
